The E-commerce firm Flipkart has sold 5 Lakh smartphones in just ten hours as part of its Big Billion Day sales, creating a record of most number of smartphones being sold in a time frame of ten hours in both offline and online modes.
“This creates a record for highest number of smartphones sold in India, in a short period of ten hours in both offline and online modes” Flipkart said in a statement. Flipkart’s Big Billion Day started on October 13th and ends on October 17th. It has sold 5 lakh smartphones in just ten hours after the E-commerce giant has made the smartphone deals available on its website.
Flipkart said that the surge in the smartphones sales were due to the increased demand from the Indian cities Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Indore, Coimbatore, Vishakhapatnam and Jaipur.
The Bengaluru based firm said that 75% of the smartphones sold were 4G enabled phones. This also means rise in 4G customers of Airtel, which is currently the only 4G service provider in India.
Flipkart offers over 30 million products across more than 70 categories, including books, media, consumer electronics and lifestyle. The company employs 33,000 people, has 50 million registered users clocking over 10 million daily visits and enables delivery of over eight million shipments a month, the Times of India reported.
