The company that makes chocolate, Mars, has recalled chocolate products in fifty five countries.
The products that have been affected in Europe are Milky Way, Boxes of Celebrations and Funsize Mars.
The Netherlands products affected are Snickers bars and Netherlands Mars.
The recall has happened after a Germany consumer found plastic bits in January in one of the Snickers bar. When investigation was made, the plastic was traced to Mars factory located in southern Veghel, Netherlands.
A spokesperson for Mars Netherlands said that it is not apparent that the plastic was only in that specific Snicker. They would not like their products to be in the market if they have not met the quality of standards that they have set. That is why they decided to take back all of them.
Only the products manufactured by the Dutch plant were affected.
The plant caters for mostly European countries but does not go all the way to US where the HQ of Mars is.
The number of bars affected as well as the cost resulting from the recall has not been made available by the company.
The manufacture dates for most of these products are as follows:
- Mars Funsize- the date between 11/09/2016 to 02/10/2016
- Milky Way Funsize- a best before date 29/05/2016
- Celebrations- a best before date between 29/05/2016 to 14/08/2016
Among the products that have been affected by the recall in UK are Milky Way, Mars, Celebrations and Snickers.
Mars ranks as a top food company and has 29 brands of chocolate including Galaxy, Bounty, Twix, M&M’s, as well as Maltesers.
Some of its other products are Uncle Ben’s Rice, Wrigley Gum, Pedigree Pet Food and Dolmio pasta sauce.
This is a privately owned business and is one of the largest private sectors Company in the US. Last year, it had global sales of 33 billion US dollars.
