One of the prominent company in Entertainment, Disney, has replaced about 250 of its employees with Indians having H-1B temporary Visas. The replacement of the native employees with foreigners has drawn a wide spread debate in the US media.
As per the US media, the layoff comes at a time when the congress was debating over the work visas of the country. With the new outcomes, the American media has conducted several debates over whether the H-1B visas compliment the American employees or replace them.
It was reported that several employees in the Disney were informed in October, last year, about their replacement with other immigrants. The New York Times, reported that the H-B visas were used by the companies to do the work of American employees for a lower cost by the immigrants. The replacements has caused huge resentments among the native employees. They opined that they were forced to train the replaced ones to do the job that they have lost.
An American employee said ” It was disgusting to train others after losing my job. It was a humiliation to the America to bring in immigrants to do the job of Americans”.
The layoff has raised new questions about how the H-B1 Visas are being used by the business and outsourcing companies to replace native Americans in US’s technology jobs, The Times of India reports.
However, Disney condemned the criticisms and said that it has replaced the employees keeping in view, the company’s business. It also said that it has created double the jobs than it has replaced.
