CHENNAI: Thowheed Jamat (TNTJ), a Muslim community Organization based in Tamil Nadu had issued a ‘Fatwa’ against the ‘Patanjali’ products, marketed by the Yogagura Ramdev Baba himself. The TNTJ alleged that most of the Patanjali products contained Cow’s urine as an ingredient, which is considered as ‘haram'(prohibited) in Islam.
“Majority of the Patanjali’s products across medicine, cosmetics and foods have Cow’s urine as a key ingredient, about which many of the people from the Muslim community does not have a knowledge. Hence, we are issuing a Fatwa against the use of Patanjali products, as Cow’s Urine is haram in Islam”, the TNTJ statement said.
“We have issued the fatwa to create an awareness among the Muslims, so that no one consumes them without knowledge. We request everyone to make a note of the ingredients in the medicine or cosmetics, before using them”, the statement added.
In Islamic terms, Fatwa is a ruling issued by an Islamic authority based on Islamic laws to protect the religion’s integrity.
