MUMBAI: If everything goes as expected and as predicted, India’s most awaited launch of the Reliance Jio may take place in August, much before the scheduled date in December. Sources said that the new telecom service may be launched on August 15. to coincide with the country’s independence day.
Though the official launch date of Reliance Jio was fixed in December, it is understood that the top management plans to make the company’s debut as soon as possible. Reliance Jio is the upcoming telecom company which aims to provide 4G services 25% cheaper than the current rates at which its rivals offer 1GB of data pack.
According to the sources, the employees of the company were asked to be prepared for an earlier launch date. Also, the first offer from the telecom will be called as “Freedom” providing 1GB of data bundled with voice calls at just Rs 80.
Most of the telecom circles in India, still generates 80% of their revenue through voice calls. However, with the launch of Reliance Jio the prices of various services of the telecoms are expected to go down by at least 25%. This will eventually lead to an intense competition between the operators. In fact, the same has been accepted by Bharati Mittal, the CEO of India’s top telecom operator Airtel.
“We know that Reliance’s launch will rock the Indian markets. We are prepared for it. We will have to wait and watch, as of now i cannot say anything about the decrease in data charges. The competition will depend on how well the new telecom will operate in the areas of quality and signal reach. Because, without these two customers will eventually choose the best of the operators again. Which means, there will not be a mandate to revise the prices”, Mr Mittal said.
Reliance Jio, boosted as the World’s biggest startup with an estimated investment of Rs 1,50,000 crores is owned by Reliance corporation.
