How some animals accelerate faster than all the others
Any time we talk of a speedy predator, the masculine cheetah will be sure to dominate the communication. This creature is an evolution marvel, having gone against countless generations as it pursues top notch speed. It is able to maneuver with its relatively large body in a manner that is mind-blowing.
But this is not the only speedy predator. There is this class that is able to accelerate by just channeling the power to a specific part of the body while the remaining part is motionless. By applying this simple tactic, the predator has managed to move at speeds faster far beyond the swiftest bird or cat.
Consider the smashing mantis shrimp. It is able to make extremely fast attacks using its club-like mouthparts. This is a speed that scientist rarely appreciated until fifteen years ago – when the need for high speed cameras became a necessity and reality.
And how is the mantis shrimp making use of its astonishing strong weapon? Well, you guessed it right – attack creatures that are known to be lazy in movement like a snail.
This is a world where acceleration is super-fast. It is a world in which deriving sense from something is not so immediate.
Probably you may argue out that the said animals are not the swiftest in the animal kingdom. But many mammals – closest relatives to us – accelerate at crazy speeds. And thus, for that reason, the birds.
Body Temperature controlling ability
It is helpful that both the birds and mammals have developed a feature which allows them control their body temperature. Even when it is extremely cold, these mammals are able to generate enough heat to keep their muscles warm. The implication of this is that they will quickly burst out in speed on a chilly morning. So if any four-limbed animal is capable of super-fast acceleration, it seems like it would make sense for it to be one of these furry or feathered species.
But that’s not how nature puts things.
