The sexually transmitted diseases, just as the name suggests, are diseases that one catches as a result of a sexual activity.
Typically, these diseases do not transmit just through penetrative sex but also oral and anal sex. Most people silently fight with the STDs as they are either too shy or ashamed to talk about them. Some also fail to see a doctor due to fear of stigmatization, reports ePainAssist.
Be aware of the following ten sexually transmitted diseases:
This is abbreviation for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. This easily makes up as one of the most feared STD in the world. AIDS is caused by HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) when body fluids are exchanged from the infected to the healthy person. Some of the fluids are saliva, sperm and vaginal discharge among others. Some preventive measures suggested include abstaining before marriage, being faithful to one partner and using condoms (not 100% guaranteed).
Caused by a bacteria referred to as Chlamydia trachomatis, Chlamydia portrays common symptoms such as burning while urinating and abnormal discharge. If it remains untreated, it may lead to health problems such as pain during intercourse, infertility, lower back pain, abdominal pain and nausea. Antibiotics are used to treat all these.
- Genital Warts
It is caused by Human Papilloma virus and portrays symptoms such as a skin formation referred to as condyloma. This condition begins in the genitals and then spreads to the surrounding regions. One thing to be wary of is that genital warts are highly contagious, and the virus that causes them can lead to cervical cancer.
- Human Papilloma Virus
Affecting almost a quarter of the women population, HPV is one of the most common STD. A precursor to HPV is the warts.
- Hepatitis B
The most common means of contract is through infected needles but sexual intercourse is also a major factor here. Its main area of concentration is not the genitals as it centres on the liver, causing liver cirrhosis, cancer as well as inflammation.
Trichomoniasis results from small parasites residing in the moist parts of the body. Sexual intercourse is a major means of spreading it. The transmitting parasite has the ability to survive outside the body for a number of hours.
Ever heard of a repetitive disease? Well, herpes is one of them. You treat it at one time and the next its back. It is basically a silent disease that can be carried by your partner without anyone of you knowing it.
- Public Lice (Crabs) and Scabies
Itching private parts is one of the most embarrassing thing you can ever wish for, especially when in a public occasion. The lice depend on your hair for their survival. Sexual intercourse and being close to the infected mainly causes it. They also live in the toilet seats, clothing, bedding and towels hence you should personalize such items.
Syphilis is one of the most serious STIs that if you don’t treat will turn out to be deadly. It results from a bacterium referred to as Treponema Pallidum. Recent times have seen a sharp increase in the number of affected people, a trend attributed to the inability to detect the disease early enough.
Gonorrhea is caused by Neisseria Gonorrheae and is known to hide its symptoms in the early stages among the women. Some signs to watch out for among the men include yellow, white or green discharge as well as pain while urinating. Gonorrhea can be treated using antibiotics.
