Let’s be honest. We don’t all enjoy the taste of water, but water is life and therefore cannot be avoided. So if you are interested in being a little healthier by drinking more water, here are 7 tips to make water taste a little more agreeable.
1. Fresh Fruit
Fruits obviously have their own unique tastes, so it goes without saying that the addition of said fruits will positively enhance the taste of water, AND add some extra nutritional value to it. We all enjoy fruit, so why not entice your taste buds by adding your favourite fruits – watermelon, strawberries or raspberries for example.
2. Add Juice
Continuing with the fruit idea, why not add tart juices like apple or cranberry to give your water that extra bite. For that added health boost, try to choose all natural juices with no added sugars.
3. Liven it up with bubbles
Plain old water can be rather boring. Try drinking seltzer water instead. You could even add fruit or fruit juice as well, or if you don’t have the time for all that fuss simply purchase flavoured seltzer water from the store.
4. Ice is nice
Room temperature water can also be quite bland for some. The addition of ice can improve the taste, some say. You could flavor your ice with some of the suggestions mentioned above by mixing them with a bit of water and putting them in the freezer. For a little more fun, ice cubes trays are available in all shapes and sizes nowadays, so go crazy with it!
5. Have a cuppa instead
Tea is a great substitute for those times when you don’t feel like having plain old water. Choose herbal, green, fruit, red or white teas instead of black teas or coffee as they are considered healthier. The good news is that there is a wide selection of flavours to choose from from your local supermarket. If that’s not enough you could always indulge in specialty teas.
6. Savory options
Soups and broths are a great option for those whose palates prefer the savoury side of life. Opt for low-sodium and low-fat varieties if you’re trying to keep yourself healthy. Soup is obviously water-based and therefore contributes to your daily fluid intake.
7. Quick flavour boost
If you haven’t got the time to concern yourself with any of the above options, you could opt for a sugar-free drink mix.
