The man who travelled to South America was diagnosed with Zika virus. State media reported that he is the first man to be diagnosed with this virus. The 34-year-old man travelled from China. It is however believed that there are several individuals in China who are already infected with this devastating virus.
National Heath and Family Planning Commission in China said, the man resides in Ganxian County located in the eastern province of Jiangxi.
Just like malaria parasite in tropical Africa, the virus is transmitted by a mosquito. This virus is more dangerous because it is associated with birth defects. Chinese authority have not taken the matter to the weight it deserves. They are making an assumption that the virus will not spread due to cold winter.
The man went back to china where he is currently receiving treatment. He displayed his first symptoms in Venezuela before setting back home. He was noticed to have persistent dizziness and fever, clear implications of Zika virus. Although the virus is known to have several symptoms, but so far those are the known major signs that can be used to make a quick clinical diagnosis. The man has been isolated from the rest of the patients in his hometown as he continues to receive treatment. Lucky enough, it has been reported that he is getting better.
As at now, the virus is advancing it territories and becoming tragic. So far, it has spread through South and Central America not forgetting the Caribbean. From this concern, the World Health Organization (WHO), interjected and declared this situation a health emergency. Zika prevalence has not yet been established properly in Brazil but the research is still in progress.
The Olympics are yet to be hosted in Brazil, which is greatly affected by this virus. Most people suspect that in such a massive gathering, the virus will spread tremendously and finally get out of control.
Zika has been related to a condition where babies are born with immature brains. This condition is scientifically known as microcephaly. This is a major threat to those individuals yearning to be future parents. Doctors have even gone ahead to an extent of advising women not to get pregnant. It is important for us to understand the symptoms associated with Zika. They include; headache, mild fever, conjunctivitis, joint pain and rashes. Guillain-Barre symptom has also been associated with this infection. Up to now, there are no drug or vaccines against this virus. If you are a victim, all you are requested to do is to rest and take plenty of water. Proper research should be conducted in order to cub this virus. It appears like it is up to something big. The worst case scenario, is when a baby has been born with microcephaly. If the baby is born with a small head that has extremely underdeveloped brain, then the baby will not survive. If this situation happen repeatedly, the world will no longer have babies. Is this some kind of extinction?! Kindly, something has to be done.
