NEW DELHI: The United Nations Organization has officially declared June 6th as the International Yoga day on the request of Indian Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi. The Indian Government has planned a Yoga campaign to take the ancient exercise practices into the people of India.
Accordingly the Indian Government has arranged a platform at the Rajpath in New Delhi, to mark the International Yoga day. The event was attended by 37,000 people comprising of various students, employees and citizen groups. The 35 minutes program was carried forward with a common Yoga protocol, which includes different asanas and pranayams or meditations.
To make the event more enthusiastic, the Indian Prime Minister has himself attended the event and participated in the Yoga exercises. The Ayush ministry officials said that the government has arranged for 37000 mats to perform Yoga, in the Central Delhi and its adjoining areas. the Times of India reports.
The organizers of the event have applied for a Guinness record citing the largest simultaneous assembly of people in a Yoga event. The previous record was held by Vivekananda Kendra in Gwalior, which organized a event attended by 29,973 people.
Performing Yoga is opposed by many people from Muslim community as it is against the teachings of Islam. Muslim leaders like Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of AIMIM and Azam Khan, the leader of Samajwadi party have been opposing it publicly since many days.
