Men and women are always searching for youth fountain, life meaning and the secret of happiness. Well, youth can pass, but what puzzles many is the secret of happiness. Could vanilla yogurt be that secret?
A team of scientists from Dutch, Australia and Finnish have spent their winter studying the emotional responses when several subjects drank different kinds of yogurt.
Probably you think that someone does not respond emotionally when they drink yogurt. Or that drinking yogurt is a way to avoid an emotional response.
However, the team from three countries persisted in their research. Their results were that fruit flavorings in yogurt did not impact the happiness of an individual. On the other hand, vanilla produced hedonic response in individuals. Quoting them, eating vanilla brings happiness to people.
It is worth looking at their method of measuring happiness. What they did is that they would ask the subjects how they felt after they ate something. We may consider that as being way too easy. In psychology, there is a principle people try to please the psychologists by saying what the psychologists want to hear.
With the combined flair of Finnish, Dutch and Austria, the scientists sought to get more. Why would vanilla make someone happy? The simple explanation provided was that vanilla is inherently pleasing. It is widely known that the scent of vanilla in a hospital waiting room calms the patients. Thus, it is not an accident that vanilla is a source of happiness. It has for long been intuited as the most pleasing flavor.
Other theories still do exist. Some are persuasive and equally vibrant. Three subjects, Jarri, Hans and Johan were informed in advance about what they would eat. They were given a white stuff in a bowel and their assumption was that they were about to eat plain yogurt. They tasted the and upon discovering it was yogurt, they became happy. That element of unexpected happiness is the secret of happiness. They had not expected to eat vanilla yogurt and they ate it.
You may probably start eating vanilla yogurt for breakfast on a daily basis so as to be happy once you have read this. However, there is no experiment on eating that can exhaust all the available possibilities. However, if you are one of those guys who admire old paintings and then become happy when you smell a vanilla scent in them, you may as well start thinking as to why you do become happy.
