According to the reports, 680 people in South Korea were in kept Isolation, having infected with Middle East Respiratory syndrome Virus(MERS).
A man has been tested positive, following his tour from Saudi Arabia. Officials say that the man acted as vector spreading the virus to other individuals. The affected people were mostly the staff who treated him and the patient’s family members. The virus also infected the other patients and family members in the hospital, causing a panic in the region.
So far South korea has reported 17 cases tested positive for MERS Virus. The suspected 680 members were kept under isolation for a complete check-up. Kwon Joon Wook, an official from the Ministry of Health said that people such as the family members of the infected were isolated to prevent the spread of the disease.
The official also said that the numbers could rise. The son of one of the patients became the first MERS patient of China, after traveling to China despite the doctors advising not to.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the virus was first discovered in 2012 which is mainly centralised in Saudi Arabia. The Virus belongs to the family of CaronaViruses. The symptoms may include cold, high fever, Pneumonia and kidney failure. The virus may have come from Camels. However, the virus may also spread by direct contact with the infected person’s fluid the Hindu reports.
1,167 cases were reported worldwide whereas 487 died so far, as per the inputs from the European disease prevention and control.
