AIZAWL: Mizoram state excise and narcotics department said in a report that at least 1,184 were killed due to drug abuse in Mizoram, since 1984. The data included 184 females, with the state recording its first drug abused death case in 1984, due to the drug heroine. The data was released in an awareness function facilitating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Spasmo proxyvon, was proved to be the killer drug in the state, which has killed 1,162 people. The other cases were reported of some clinical drugs.
The state shares a 722 Km long border with the neighboring Bangladesh and Myanmar, through which the drug trafficking is carried out. Myanmar is considered as the rich provider of the drug heroine through the infamous Golden triangle.
Clinical drugs such as spasmo proxyvon and parvon spas, have reported more than 90 percent of the deaths due to drug abuse, in the state of Mizoram. Notably, the two drugs are prominent painkillers.
To mark the “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, the Government of Mizoram has organised a function to bring in awareness among the youth of Mizoram, with a theme of “Development without Drugs”, the Times of India reports.
The awareness meeting was addressed by the State excise department officials and the Mizoram minister for Health.
