The Bangladesh Government has conferred its prestigious Liberation war honour award on Former Indian Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his active role in the country’s freedom struggle.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received the award on behalf of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as he was unable to attend the award function due to his health condition. Bangladesh president Abul Hamid handed over the Prestigious award to Narendra Modi, in a auspicious ceremony at Bangabhaban, the President’s official residence. Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheik Hasina and other Prominent persons of the Country were present at the award ceremony.
Modi on receiving the award on behalf of Vajpayee said that the great leader was an inspiration to several politicians including him. “It is an honour for me to receive the award on behalf of Atalji. This is the moment, of which every Indian will be proud of. Atal Bihari Vajpayee is a great leader who fought for the development of the common man and is an inspiration to many, including me” Modi said after receiving the award.
Modi recalling an incident from his life with Vajpayee, said that Vajpayee has fought for the Bangladesh freedom. ” Vajpayee organised Satyagrahas in suport of Bangladesh Liberation war. As a young Volunteer i used to attend the gatherings coming from my village” he said, The Hindu BusineessLine reports.
Modi added ” when you fought a battle for pride, I was also among the Indians, who have aspired for your dream to come true”. Modi concluded his speech saying that the occasion could have been different if Vajpayee’s health permits and has attended the ceremony,
