KABUL: Six Taliban gunmen have tried to attack the Parliament of Afghanistan today, during the progress of a parliament session. The Afghanistan parliament session was discussing over the appointment of a new Defense Minister, when the attack took place.
The Interior Ministry said that it was a coordinated attack on the parliament. “The attack ended with the six gunmen killed”, the Interior Ministry said. Attackers stormed the gates outside the parliament with a huge blast and then entered a chamber under construction near to the Parliament.
The Police have evacuated the surroundings in a bid to fight the gunmen off. On the other hand the Taliban Organization has claimed the responsibility of the attack over the parliament. It said that the attack was against the vote to endorse a new defense minister.
Mr.Sediq Seddiqi, the spokesperson for the Interior Minister said that the Taliban gunmen tried to storm the Parliament after blasting the gates with the help of a suicide bomber.
“The attackers have somehow fought off the security and entered a building under construction. There was an intense firing between the Police and the attackers. The parliament chamber was covered with smoke”, the Spokesperson added.
Reports claim that at least 18 people were wounded in the attack and no MPs were injured. The Members of the parliament were seen fleeing the building after the attack, the BBC reports.
The Police have struggled hard to end the crisis and Eventually, brought the situation under control. Similar attacks were launched by the Taliban in the Past over the Government buildings in the Capital. The security conditions in the Afghanistan deteriorated after the US and the NATO troops went back from the country.
