Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag on Saturday said that the Indian army will not allow another Kargil-like conflict in future. General Dalbir Singh made the comments after paying tributes to the Kargil War Martyrs at a memorial here.
Though the celebrations to mark the India’s victory of the Kargil war has started on July, 20th. The main events are scheduled to be held today and tomorrow. The celebrations also called the “Vijay Diwas”, are held every year in the month of July, which marks the start of Kargil war in 1999.
The Indian Army will hold a memorial service at the Kargil War Memorial, with the leaders of all the religions carrying their religious prayers in praise of the Martyrs. The prayer will be followed by the lightning of the lamps.
The Wreath laying ceremony to the Martyrs of the Kargil, will be held on Sunday which will be followed by an interaction with the Veer Naris, the Indian Express reports.
The Kargil war, which began in May 1999, lasted for more than two months before Pakistani soldiers, a bulk of them drawn from its Northern Light Infantry, and irregulars withdrew from the mountain tops they had occupied overlooking the Srinagar-Leh highway.
The Indian side has lost 490 officers and several soldiers in the war, which lasted for 2months.
