Australia Defense Minister Kevin Andrews confirmed the participation of Australian fighter jets in Syria against the ISIS. The first operation by the Australian forces in Syria, which included fighter jets, had successfully destroyed an armoured personnel carrier belonging to ISIS.
Last week, the Australian Government has agreed to expand its operations to fight against the ISIS from Iraq to Syria, on a official request from the United States of America.
Addressing the reporters in Canberra, Defense Minister Andrews said,” the Air force personnel have successfully conducted their first attack and destroyed an ISIS target in eastern Syria. The expansion of the air strikes into the Syria underlines the commitments of the Australia in the Middle East. We are determined to protect the security of Iraq”.
Australia has earlier agreed to join the International team of nations to fight against the ISIS in Iraq. The international team is lead by the US, which carries out air strikes in order to control and deteriorate the expansion of the ISIS, the dailystar reported.
With Australia joining the battling team in Syria, fear surrounded among the citizens of Australia as it they could become target of the ISIS revenge attacks. However, the Australian Defense Minister said that it is well equipped to safeguard its internal security.
