NEW DELHI: The Central Government is all set to ban the manufacturing of the national flags using plastics. The order is likely to be issued with in a few days as per the sources from the Union Home Ministry. The decision to ban the use of plastics to manufacture the national flags comes after a number of complaints from the citizens, regarding the plastic flags being thrown away like garbage after events like Republic and Independence day.
“We will soon issue the order banning national flags made out of plastics”, a Senior Home Ministry official said.
The Maharashtra High Court has earlier asked the Government to come up with a comprehensive policy to ban the manufacturing and selling of the national flags made out of plastics. The Central government has also informed the court, that a proposal to ban the use of plastics to manufacture the national flags was pending.
” The Government can come up with ideas to restrict this issue. It must create public awareness to respect national flags. Like the National anthem and the pledge being printed on the books, the government can also consider printing text describing the duty to respect the national flag”, the High court commented, the NDTV reports.
The decision to ban the plastic flags was taken in the light of the Independence day, soon approaching. On the other hand, the daily labors who make a living printing the plastic flags expressed displeasure over the ban.
