BALI: Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, notoriously known as Chhota Rajan was on Thursday deported from Indonesia to the New Delhi. The underworld don is expected to reach the national capital of India by the early morning of Friday. It has been 27 years since the notorious criminal Chhota Rajan, who had numerable cases against him has fled the Indian sub-continent.
Rajan, who was arrested by the Indonesian police upon a confidential tip from the Australia on October 25th, took off from the Ngurah Rai International airport in a special flight along with the India’s CBI officers and Maharashtra Police at around 17.45PM(IST).
The Indian Government has requested the Indonesian Police to hand over Rajan to its custody, as it aims to carry out investigations in various pending cases against him. According to the sources, Rajan had more than 75 criminal cases against him ranging from bomb blasts to drug trafficking.
Earlier, Rajan’s deportation was deferred by a day as the Indonesian airport was closed due to an unfavorable weather condition. However, he was successfully deported after the airport was reopened today.
Interestingly, the Maharashtra Government has transferred all the cases under its jurisdiction against Rajan, to the Central investigation agency, CBI. The Government said that the CBI has more experience over handling such cases.
Sources said that Chhota Rajan has requested for a reserved cell as he fears that he may be targeted by the aids of his arch-rival Dawood Ibrahim, the most wanted criminal of India, the TOI reported.
Chhota Rajan and Dawood Ibrahim are the arch-rivals working in the same criminal field. It was reported that the duo have tried several failed attempts to kill each other.
