ASIA: A powerful suicide bomb that targeted major police facility in Afghan Capital Kabul has killed at least 28 people and injured 329 others.
Reports say that a suicide attacker detonated a vehicle and gunmen came into the area. The area has now been cleared and the gunfight is over.
The Taliban group has owned the attacks.
This has just a week after it warned that it was in the process of preparing large-scale attacks.
The bombing is the latest in a series of Taliban attacks that have hit Kabul in recent days.
A spokesman of the Resolute Support mission which NATO leads sad that the Taliban attacking the Afghan police shows how the group has no respect for the law and that all they want is to defend themselves and not the Afghan people.
He added that once the Taliban targets the people responsible for defending the Afghans does not support the works towards having a peaceful country.
Among the casualties of this recent attack are security officers and soldiers. Majority of those affected are the civilians.
The presidential palace that is located just a few hundred meters from the attacked area condemned the attacks in the strongest possible terms.
“Such cowardly terrorist attacks will not weaken the will and determination of Afghan security forces to fight against terrorism.”
President Ghani via a twitter tweet said that “Today’s terrorist attacks near Pul-e-Mahmud Khan, #Kabul clearly show the enemy’s defeat in face-to-face battle with ANSDF.”
The Taliban in the past one year has been at a certain level of relaxation due to the withdrawal of NATO and US forces towards the end of 2014. It is now in control of a sizeable Afghanistan.
