Over 500 members emanating from a single Chinese family have reunited for a supersize group photo that denotes the economic changes the country has experienced since it began to enjoy an economic boom.
All of them members of the Ren family, they convened in a village closer to the eastern city of Zhengzhou for a get-together-celebration. Just as it is common to most Chinese families, the Ren family decided to capture the day’s events with a family portrait, reports UPI.
But the size of the portrait is what attracted the attention of most online users, with many easily concluded that they can fill two Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
It is reported that these shot was the masterpiece of two photographers, Zhou Jiandao and Zhang Liangzong, who used a drone so that all the members could fit perfectly in a single frame.
Detailed family tree
According to a Communist party chief of Shishe village, Ren Tuanjie, the get-together had been organized to commemorate the long work of putting together a much deeper family tree.
As reported by BBC sources, local researchers had spent months putting together details of over 2,000 living family members of the Ren dynasty. The family’s history can be traced back 851 years.
Ren said that they took approximately two and half years to put together the family tree. It is their intention to unite family members “so as to let our ancestors know where they are.”
Most Chinese families have been pushed far away from each other due to enraging famine, war, dictatorship, and many more economic factors. The recent trend has been centered on the young men and girls leaving their villages for the cities in search of greener pastures.
Many, as expected, made joke of the group photo, with some speculating on the inter-family relationships. “What if they meet someone they like in the group? Can they still get married?” a user on the country’s popular microblogging network Weibo asked.
With such a gigantic photo, one can easily argue China’s changes over the past 4 decades have perfectly been captured.
