Charles Kennedy, former Liberal Democrat party leader, has died at his residence in Fort Williams, aged 55. His family said that they have lost a fine and lovable person.
Prime Minister David Cameron, led the tributes saying it was very sad moment. Ex-PM Tony Blair said, that it was a “absolute tragedy”.
Mr. Kennedy, worked with his party from 1999 to 2006 and has recently lost his seat in the last month elections. The cause of the death is yet to be known, however the Police confirmed it was not a suspicious death.
Mr Kennedy helped his party to win the best ever election result in 2005, with the resolution of his opposition against the Iraq war but he has resigned early in 2006 revealing that he has to undergo treatment for his long standing alcohol problem.
The family members of Mr. Kennedy said in a statement, that they were devastated and enormously shocked at the sudden loss of a fine and one of the greatest politicians of the history. The statement read, ” Charles was a talented politician and a loving father to his young son”, the BBC News reports.
The police officials said, ” we have went to a address after we got a call from the ambulance personnel, regarding the death of a 55 year old person. The Ambulance personnel said that there was no circumstances of a suspicious death on the body.”
