The Government of India, after providing easy to carry 5-Kg cylinders in 2013, has now decided to launch smaller 2-Kg cylinders in local grocery stores. In addition to it, the Government has also announced the launch of a new service to book new cylinder connections online.
The traditionally available LPG cylinders which weighs 14.2 Kg are heavy and its cost of Rs.418 may not be affordable to the population living in rural areas. Hence, a 5-Kg cylinder priced at Rs.155 was introduced in October 2013 to facilitate the use of LPG cylinders in the rural areas.
Announcing the plannings of the Government to introduce new 2-Kg cylinders, Oil Minister Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan said. ” We are now planning to introduce a 2Kg-cylinder which will now benefit the poor and rural people who cannot afford to purchase a traditional 14.2 kg or even a 5-kg cylinder”.
The Ministry added that the issuance of 5-Kg subsidized cylinders will be increased in the rural and far flung areas in the first place. The announcement by Minister Pradhan, at the launch of LPG online connection booking service.
“Customers can now book for a new LPG connection online apart from ordering for LPG cylinders online. The online application for new cylinders will be verified in 48 hours and a person from the nearest LPG agency will deliver a new connection at the door-step in the next 3-4 days”, he said.
The launch of the new e-connection system will now make it easy for people to acquire a new connection, without running around gas agency offices, the Economic Times reported.
Mr.Pradhan has also said that more than 25000 people have volunteerly waived off their LPG subsidy to a call given by the Central Government.
