NEW DELHI: With the Terrorist Organisations using the Internet to incite religious intolerance and other anti-social activities, the Government of India has ordered all the Internet Service Providers(ISPs) in India to block about 40 webpages with inappropriate and inflammatory content, including social media posts and other streaming videos allegedly relating to a minority community.
“Government has issued order under Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 to block some…videos that could incite minority community,” an official source said.
As per the Government order, all the Internet Service providers have blocked most of the inflammatory posts and videos. However, some videos cannot be blocked as they were posted through “Secure internet protocol”.
A top official at one of the Internet service providers said, “we cannot block all the websites and videos as some of them are secured. The DoT is well aware of the technical issues regarding these”.
The DoT has earlier issued similar orders to block social-media posts and videos which were aimed at a minority community in the neighboring country Myanmar. In December, last year the Government has also ordered for the blocking of 32 websites which were allegedly posting Anti-India material form terrorist groups such as ISIS, the Times of India reports.
According to the sources, terror groups such as the ISIS are using the platform of Social media over the Internet to induce youth to fight for the ISIS against the allied forces in Iraq.
