RANCHI: India Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi has today expressed his view of starting another Green Revolution in the country. The Prime Minister addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of the Indian Agricultural institute (IARI), in Jharkhand said that India needs a Green Revolution for the second time.
“There is a urgent need for the country to implement Green Revolution for the second time and this should be started immediately in the Eastern States of India”, the Prime Minister said.
Sources said that the Prime Minister’s comments were aimed to increase the decreased agricultural productivity in the Eastern states of India.
An official release said, that the Agriculture institution in Jharkhand, would help to achieve inclusive agricultural growth through integrated farming systems.
“The institute will attract the post-graduates and doctoral students from all over the India and also from abroad to conduct region-specific research. This will in turn help us to produce developmental results to improve Agriculture”, the release added.
Modi also appealed to the farmers to use modern techniques of higher Agricultural productivity. He urged the farmers to use micro irrigation to increase the productivity of food grains.
“I appeal the farmers to take up the production of pulses in large number. India still imports pulses on a larger scale from other countries. There is a government scheme to provide additional support price to the farmers cultivating pulses, to promote its production in the country”, the PM said.
The Prime Minister also appealed to the farmers to make use of the “Krishi Channel”, launched to help farmers in rural areas, the Times of India reports.
