SRINAGAR: By hosting Iftar on the banks of the Dal lake, Kashmir broke the record for organizing the longest spread Iftar party in Asia. The event broke the previous world record of the UAE, which held the Guinness record for organizing Asia’s longest Iftar spread over 1.3 kilometre stretch.
Last month, Alexandria in Egypt, broke the world record by organizing an event offering Iftar to 7000 people, making it the longest spread Iftar till date.
Srinagar broke the Asia specific record of the longest spread Iftar by forming a 5,000 feet long chain with more than 3500 people. The event was organized along the scenic banks of the Dal lake. More than 3500 poeple broke their fast at the event by consuming various delicacies.
A student Nadira, said ” It is great to be part of the event. It is very important for Kashmir to make such records. It also shows the spirit of unity in the holy month of Ramadan”.
The Iftar party was organized by an event management firm “Loud Beetle” in collaboration with other civil society groups and business houses of Kashmir. The Iftar event has surpassed the previous record of the UAE with a 1.6 Kilometre long spread party.
“More than a record of being the longest Iftar event as of now, we are trying to show that the Islam is a community with humanity and harmony”, an event Organizer said, the NDTV reports.
Kashmir is well known for offering Iftar to poor people in the holy month of Ramadan. The event underlines the message to celebrate the fast breaking ritual together as a community in the holy month of Ramadan.
