KOTA: A medical aspirant, Ms Anjali Anand committed suicide at her accommodation in Rajiv Nagar due to heavy ‘study pressure’. This is the fourth similar case in Kota, witnessing students committing suicide not withstanding the study pressures put up on them.
Anjali, 18, from Muradabad of Uttarpradesh was taking classes for AIPMT in kota, a circle famous for premier study institutes in Rajasthan. The police said that the girl took the extreme step by hanging self to a ceiling fan in her hostel room.
The police have found a suicide letter in Anjali’s diary which read that she has committed suicide due to the stress of her studies and her inability to fulfill the dreams of her parents.
Anjali’s parents said that their daughter took the extreme step due to the immense pressure of her studies. The body was sent to the Bhimrao Singh hospital for an official post-mortem.
The police informed the media that they have a received a call in the morning from the caretaker of the hostel, on noticing Anjali hanging to the ceiling.
Anjali has appeared for the AIPMT entrance last year but was unfortunate to get selected. This was her second attempt for AIPMT, for which she has been preparing for in Kota.
The situation in Kota is turning ‘worse’ with more number of student suicides being reported day-by-day. Students were not able to withstand the intensity of the pressures they receive from both the study institutes and parents, the NDTV reported.
“It may be logical for parents to dream of their kids future well in advance. However, forcing their children towards a career which they(parents) dream is not justifiable. All children are not the same, they have their own area of talent. Parents must allow their children to choose their careers based on their interests”, a Psychologist Mr Naresh said.
“Children cannot tolerate heavy pressures at a tender age. The Government of India should look into the case and consider revamping the education system in India as this will not end here. There must be a proper system to stop the commercialization of Education system”, he added.
