Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation over the radio, launched a nationwide social media campaign to save the girl child in India. As part of the campaign, the Prime Minister urged the Fathers and Daughters of the country to take a selfie together and post it on the twitter with the hashtag “SelfieWithDaughter”
The campaign was aimed at increasing the sex-ratio of the females in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also promised to re-tweet the twitter messages with the best tagline, as part of his “Save Your Daughter-Teach your Daughter” campaign.
Modi also talked about the sarpanch of a village in Haryana, Sunil Jaglan, who earlier lead a selfie campaign on Whatsapp to bring awareness among the villagers. Haryana, has one of the worst female sexratios in India.
“Usually, we don’t see the pictures of daughters in houses. The main objective of the program was to increase the importance of girl child in homes. Hence, we have asked every parent to take a selfie with their daughter, which is the latest trend in taking photos’, Mr.Jaglan said.
Modi has also appealed to the nation to enroll the women in their homes under various Social Security schemes of the government, which were launched recently, the Huffingtonpost reports.
The “selfiewithdaughter”campaign has already started receiving overwhelming response from around India.
