Augmented reality mobile game Pokemon Go has finally arrived India, five months after its official launch in July. Pokemon Go, arguably the most famous mobile game in 2016 will now be available for download on Google Play and App Store from Wednesday. Interestingly, the developer of the game Niantic Inc. has partnered with telecom operator Reliance Jio to launch the much-awaited reality game in India.
Reliance Jio said in its media release that Reliance Jio stores and the company’s select partner premises will appear as “Gyms” or “PokeStops” within the game from Wednesday. Jio expressed that its partnership with Niantic Inc. will help in boosting its customer base. The Mukesh Ambani-led telecom has already announced the extension of its free services to all its users until March 31, 2016, under the “Happy New Year offer”.
Pokemon Go has created waves around the world since its launch in July, this year. Ever since its official launch, the game has been downloaded over 500 million times on Google Play and App Store helping gamers to create social groups and compete with each other.
Announcing Pokemon Go’s launch in India, John Hanke, the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Niantic Inc. said, “It is an exciting moment for us as we see the people of India step out into their neighborhoods to catch Pokemon. Jio’s high-speed 4G LTE service will provide an excellent way to experience the game”.
Also, Reliance Jio has enabled an exclusive Pokemon Go channel on its social networking app ‘Jio Chat’ to help users with clues and guidelines to play the game.
