The Maharashtra State Government has on Tuesday took a remarkable decision by shunting out the Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, along with four others who were also part of the team probing into the Sheena Bora murder case. Ahmed Jawed, a 1980-batch IPS officer, took charge immediately as the city’s new police Commissioner.
Rakesh Maria, has been elevated to the rank of Director General, Home Guards. Jawed, who took over as the Police head, said that which team was probing the Sheena Bora murder case was not important as long as the facts about the investigation remains correct and factual.
There were rumors that the Government has moved him out of the case as he is said to have a soft-corner with Peter, an alleged in the murder case of Sheena Bora. Sources said that the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr.Fadnavis was unhappy over the case of Sheena Bora being handled by Maria and the media hype around it. It was quoted by an Indian Newspaper that the Chief Minister signed the transfer cum promotion orders before he left for the tour of Japan.
Maria personally took charge of the Sheena Bora case this month and was part of the interrogation of accused Indrani Mukerjea. TV channels suggested that Maria may have been shunted out because of his close links with Peter, the Huffingtonpost reports.
