An RTI(Right to information) Activist has recently questioned the Maharashtra government over the details of the 2002’s Salman Khan’s hit and run case.
The RTI activist, has asked the Maharasthra Law and Judiciary department to provide the details pertaining to the names of the advocates, solicitors and the total expenditure the government has made for the hearing of the case since 2002.
The Government officials replied to the query, informing that the details cannot be furnished as the file containing the details was burnt in a fire accident on June 21st,2012. The reply stated that the only detail they have was that the appointment of the Special Public prosecutor with a payment of Rs 6000/- per hearing.
The RTI has asked for the total expenditure of the government on the case since 2012 to May, 2015 when the judgement has been given. But unfortunately, the government has not even provided the details since 2012, after the attack of the fire. It shows the irresponsibility of the department.
On May 06th, the court has convicted Salman Khan of the 2002 Hit and Run case. He was awarded a 5 year imprisonment by the Court, The Hindu reports.
The Mumbai High court has however, granted a bail to him and suspended the sentence until the final judgement after the due hearing is made.
