Kashmir Separatist leader Geelani, has declared himself as an Indian, today in his passport application. Geelani, 88, has been striving for the separatism of Kashmir to become a independent country or to be in the Pakistan union.
Earlier, Mr. Geelani was refused a passport by the External affairs department as his application was incomplete. Geelani in his earlier application, did not provide the government officials with his biometry data. He has also denied to declare himself as an Indian in the application form. Due to these reasons his application was cancelled.
As per the information available, Geelani was in urgent need of a passport to meet his ailing daughter in Saudi Arabia. Due to this reason, today Geelani has attended the nearby Passport office and provided his biometry details and declared himself as an Indian. An official confirmed that he has declared himself as an Indian in the application for a passport, The Times of India reports.
Speaking over the issue, a spokesperson from the Hurriyat said that Geelani has declared himself as an Indian as every Kashmiri does, to get a passport to travel abroad.
