Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday launched ‘Swachh Hyderabad’ with 36,000 officials including the Governor, MPs, MLAs and top officials.
With the formal launch of the programme at HICC, the roads witnessed heavy traffic and the visits by the officials resulted in a day of cleaning for Hyderabad as thousands of tonnes of garbage and debris were cleared.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Hyderabad city despite having an individual and distinctive identity lacks perfect system for sanitation and cleanliness. Hence the government has launched the Swachh Hyderabad campaign to help Hyderabad in turning into a clean and green city, said KCR.
KCR said that he is taking forward the concept of clean environment which was first launched by Mahatma Gandhi and later inspired Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.
Earlier Swacch Bharat scheme was launched on 2nd October,2014 by the Indian Prime minister to felicitate the initiative of a clean India. The initiative has a priority in the Central Government’s governing body and was also praised by US president Barack Obama for the cleanliness drive, The Hindu reports.
Hyderabad being one of the top metropolitan city of India, has various basic issues like sanitary, unhygienic slum areas, poor drainage systems which are aimed to be addressed in the initiative “Swacch Hyderabad”.
