RAJAHMUNDRY: Twenty two people were killed in a gruesome accident, when a van rammed into the railings of Dowleswaram Cotton Barrage near Rajahmundry and fell into the Godavari river. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, in which only a kid has survived.
The people of Andhra Pradesh were dejected with the news of the accident which has killed two families. The Police said that the families were returning from a holy shrine to their native village and has unfortunately met with an accident. The negligence of the driver was deemed as the main cause behind the accident.
The deceased belonged to the Ramaiahpeta of Atchyutapuram mandal in Visakhapatnam district. The accident has left alone the only survivor of the accident Kiran (6) without parents and relatives. The Police were in the dilemma, as they did not knew whom to inform of the accident as the entire family fell in the death trap.
The only survivor, Kiran has been admitted in the hospital for treatment. The kid was not able to recognize the world around him after the sudden shock he was subjected to. The doctors said that the boy was unable to accept the truth and the reality that has been happening around him. The only news which could give some hope for the well-wishers of the kid is that a cabinet minister of Andhra Pradesh has decided to adopt the child.
Urban SP Mr.Hari Krishna said, that the accident took place in the midnight at around 12.30-1.30AM. one of the morning walkers had informed the police station about the accident at around 05.45. The rescue operation was delayed due to the unavailability of the machinery to lift the rammed vehicle, The Hindu reports.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the nearby hospital in Rajahmundry to carry postmortem. Indian National Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the Chief Minister of the state have expressed their deep condolences over the incident.
