Lucknow: Ram Murthy Verma, a powerful politician cum Minister of the Uttar Pradesh government was finally arrested over the murder case of a journalist Jagendra singh. The arrest came only, after the increasing protests of the International media and the Human rights activists in India.
The victim Jagendra Singh, a journalist by profession has posted videos and posts on his facebook page about the illegal mining and land grabbing activities of the Backward classes minister Mr. Ram Murthy Verma. The journalist has also alleged that the Minister has raped a tribal girl with his henchmen. It was mentioned by his family, that the journalist has enough evidence to prove his allegations.
The sincerity of the Journalist has cost him badly, with the henchmen of the Minister setting him on fire at his residence. As per the FIR, the local police chief and five others have arrived at the journalist’s house at around five O’clock in the evening, The inspector has set him a blaze with kerosene after he has disagreed to the conditions of the local police inspector.
The local police and five others accused, claimed that the journalist had set himself on fire with the fear of the police coming to his house. However, the victim Mr. Jagendra has earlier said in his statement to the Police officials that the local police has himself set him on fire for not accepting his terms over the allegations on the Minister.
On suffering with 60 percent of the burns, Mr.Singh was taken to the King George Medical College in Lucknow where he has fought for his life till he has died. The son of the Journalist Mr.Rajan said that they have received threats from the minister even before this incident. He alleged that the local police were corrupt and hasn’t responded to his complaint.
UP minister verma and his associate police officer Sri Prakash Rai were arrested after a social media outcry. The committee to Project Journalists(CJJ), an organization based in New York which monitors attacks over the journalists around the world has demanded for an investigation in this regard, The Huffingtonpost reports.
