Uttar Pradesh Government’s Back ward classes welfare minister, Mr. Ram Murti Singh Verma was booked in a case by the police for allegedly setting a journalist on fire. Five accused, along with the minister were booked in this case, on a police compliant from the family members of the Journalist.
The police said ” An FIR (First information report) has been registered in this case against the Back ward classes welfare minister and five others. The five others includes Inspector Sri Prakash Rai besides four others identified as Gufran, Akash Gupta, Amit Pratap Singh and Bhure”. The five were accused of Killing Jagendra singh by setting him on fire.
The FIR has been lodged under IPC 302 (murder), 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The police said that the FIR was booked on the compliant of the journalist’s son Mr. Raghavendra, after his father died undergoing treatment last night.
According to the family members of the deceased, journalist Jagendra has posted some posts regarding the involvement of the Welfare minister of Uttar Pradesh, in illegal mining and land grabbing on his facebook page. Following the posts, the family members alleged that the police who are reportedly, the well-wishers of the Minister have come over a raid on the house of the journalist eventually killing him by setting him on fire, The Hindu reports.
Before his death Jagendra Singh, accused Verma for targeting his family for his investigations on illegal mining and land grabbing. Inspector General Mr. Thakur said, ” Mr Jagendra said me a two days before that he was being targeted by the Minister’s henchmen. We are interrogating the case.”
