Google+ was launched on June 28, 2011 and has gone on to grow much bigger than Facebook – launched on February 4, 2004 and Twitter – launched on March 21, 2006. Within a short period of time, Google+ has grown to become better than its counterparts, but try tell that to a friend and you’ll be met with incredulous glances.
They’ll be like: “Better than Facebook? You cray cray or what?”
But do not let them change your well crafted opinions. The reality is that Google+ is better than Facebook for small businesses and will be much bigger in a few years to come. I even wonder why it isn’t catching up that fast.
Let’s have a look at the top 5 things that Google+ does better than facebook.
When holding discussions about Google+, the most talked about feature would definitely be the Circles. This is a platform that helps you in managing whom you are following and want to share your updates with. The Circles assists you to share your status updates with selected groups instead of blasting it out to any Tom, Dick and harry. For instance, you can create a Circle of music friends so that sharing music that you enjoy becomes a straightforward happening.
As much as Facebook and Twitter allow you selectively share updates, they are not fine tuned. It is possible to block updates from given Facebook groups but actually configuring that isn’t an easy task. Twitter on the other hand is more restricting. You only get to make your status public or private… nothing more than that.
This is a second Google+ feature that easily ranks as a huge kick on Facebook. Its video chatting feature permits for up to 10 concurrent chats, all for free. Each person you are holding a conversation with is in a small box and the person speaking takes the large window on top.
Facebook brokered a deal with Skype so as to bring Video chat on its Messenger app but only allows one-on-one video chat. Its founder, Mark Zuckerberg has made indications that more features will soon follow but as things stand; Google+ is on top of the game.
- Data downloading
Want efficient downloading of personal data and updates? Then Google+ is the way to go. Google’s new Google Takeout service lets you download your saved data from Google’s servers. If you wanted to leave Google+ tomorrow, for example, you could easily download your status updates before checking out.
Facebook can still boast that it has the same feature but it is not as comprehensive as that of Google+. In any case, the “Download Your Information” option is much hidden and you barely notice this link.
- Mobile Capabilities
Google+, just like Facebook and Twitter, already has apps for Android and iOS. They all come with the basic capabilities of watching videos and reading updates but Google+ adds you a tool called Huddles. This mobile group chat feature allows you to simultaneously hold chats with many people as you make plans or waste time.
Twitter has an excellent presence on mobile but it’s quite limiting on what one can do. It fails to offer real-time group chat. Facebook on the other hand has great application for reading and sending messages but a complete overhaul of the same could help keep up with Google+.
Easily ranking as the most underutilized Google+ features, Sparks enable you to get hold of an article about any topic on your mind. At the bottom of the content there is a share feature which can be used to display this content to people within your circles.
