Apple announced that customers who lose their AirPod will have to pay £65 for replacement of one of the wireless headphones. The devices are already on sale via its website and go for £159.
They come with a charging case and can be connected to Apple gadgets like Macs and iPhones using the Bluetooth technology.
The Silicon-based firm made a significant change to its flagship iPhone 7 by eliminating the 3.5mm port. This forced Apple lovers to use the lightning port for charging and listening to music. The other preferred alternative is the wireless headphones – preferably Apple’s own AirPod.
But as you would expect, customers were outraged by the changes. Probably that’s why iPhone 7 sales did not plummet.
Expect more charges
Apart from the above charges, customers will also be charged £65 to replace a lost charging case. It costs £45 to service the battery in a single AirPod or the charging case itself.
While analyzing Apple’s latest smartphone, one analyst said that losing the AirPods was much easier considering they lack a connecting wire. Ian Fogg of the HIS Technology said that he is not perplexed by Apple’s decision to charge customers for a lost product.
While speaking to BBC, he said “What’s striking I think about this is more that, because the Airpod is so small and doesn’t have a cable, it’s going to be easier to lose.”
The analyst went on to explain that despite the fears, the headphones come with a set of advantages.
As Apple has constantly insisted, they may be much easier to pair with your phone and have a rock-solid connection. If so, then they will be a game changer and soon more firms will follow suit. You may soon be looking at a lot people wearing the same white earbuds but with no wires between them.
But this technology also poses a great danger in its own. In case the AirPods fail to pick up as expected, there stands a high chance that more manufacturers may get scared of the Bluetooth headphones.
To cab the possibility of such an impact, Apple has been thoughtful not to include the AirPods in the iPhone 7 box. Instead, what you get is the lightning headphones and an adapter.
Some people have also raised eyebrows regarding the set prices. Well, it sounds like Apple made a quality, if high-priced, pair of wireless headphones that might be aimed more at casual music listening than intense workouts.
