The much awaited Microsoft’s new PC OS, Windows 10, scheduled to be released at the end of this month has already started making news yet before it’s official release. Earlier, in the beginning of this year Microsoft has said in a statement that it’s new innovative personal assistant Cortana will be available only in selected countries. Unfortunately, India was not on the list of the selected nations. However, that might change soon.
In his official Windows blog Marcus Ash, Group Product Manager for Cortana at Microsoft said, “As we’ve already announced, on July 29th, Cortana will debut on Windows 10 in seven countries: the U.S., UK, China, France, Italy, Germany and Spain. Today we’re announcing that over the coming months, Cortana will be available to customers in the Windows Insider Program in Japan and Australia, and in English in Canada and India. Later this year, Cortana will also be available to Windows Insiders in Brazil and Mexico, and in French in Canada.”
This announcement will be exciting to the tech enthusiasts from India who have been waiting for the official launch of the Windows 10. Elaborating about the efficiency of Cortana, Ash said ” Our research has shown difference in the aspects of personality of the people in various Cortana markets. Hence, we have decided to work on region specific development of the Cortana and that is why it will only be available to selected countries in the beginning”, the firstpost reports.
Ash reiterated that Microsoft wanted to make Cortana as user-friendly as possible. “We want to make Cortana a real personal assistant. For example, people in different geographical locations speak with different variations in their accent of speech. They have a humor touch. All these are being addressed while coding the Cortana. Cortana can understand different accents of English as per the geographical location”, he said.
