The latest version of Google’s self-driving car, a pod-like two-seater that needs no gas pedal or steering wheel, will make its debut on public roads this summer, a significant step in the technology giant’s mission to have driverless cars available to consumers in the next five years.
Google says that it is the first of its kind in the world, a Car which is self driven. It looks like a smart car with a shiny black bowler hat to hide its sensors, and it can drive, brake and recognise road hazards without human intervention. It has more capabilities than the prototype Google introduced last May, which was so rudimentary it had fake headlights.
The co-founder of Google, Sergey Brin said that, the initial goal of the google is to make cars which can drive without human errors. He further added that these driver less cars could make the percentage of accidents come down drastically. At present about 90% of the accident cases noted around the world are mainly due to human errors. ” Apart from this, they can even be used to adjust traffics as per the situations” Brin added.

Earlier in 2010, Google shocked the world auto-mobile companies with its decision to work on a driverless car. Google co-founder Sergey Brin further insisted that Google is not going to be a auto=mobile company, but they wanted their technology to be used by companies all over the world partnering with them. He added that, Google will work for the project with the instincts of a technological uplift of the world.
For now the traditional auto-makers are pursuing their own self-driving technology, but with less ambitious timeline of 10 to 15 years for a truly driverless car.
