Marcus Rashford scored twice to assist Man-U qualify for the Europa League last 16 by thrashing FC Midtjylland.
In the first leg of the match, the Danish had a 2-1 lead. The advantage was increased by a goal from Pione Sisto but this was reduced by Nikolay Bodurove’s own goal. Rashford then scored twice and thus giving Manchester United hopes of qualifying for the next round of the Europa League.
A penalty goal from Ander Herrera and a late goal from Memphis sealed the day.
When the two teams were 1-1, Juan Mata missed a penalty. Midtjylland on the other hand finished with 10 men as a result of Ander Rome being shown a second yellow card.
At the beginning of the match, United were faced with an embarassing exit. This was however curbed by a double score from Rashford.
The young man who used to be a substitute of the team’s sheet was upgraded to the starting line-up after Martial got injured during a warm-up.
He depicted confidence from the very beginning, the tidy finish by Sisto left Louis Van Gaal’s boys staring at an embarrassing exit at the hands of a 1999 team.
The exited Rashford placed Manchester United ahead after scored, seven yards from the goal post. He repeated the same trick to make it 3-1.
Herare then added a fourth goal after which Depay scored the goal that closed the scoring door.
It had looked as though it would be another sorry chapter in the United’s story this season even before the game started.
Chris Smalling had been ruled out of the match on Thursday due to a shoulder injury. This paved way for Joe Riley.
Rashford’s debut on the other hand, was availed as a result of an injury to Martial.
The results managed to bring a smile on Van Gaal, who has been under pressure to perform.
