Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook CEO, has said that investigations are underway in his company regarding censorship of news reports with conservative points of view.
The company takes these actions after weeks of US Senate and media allegations.
Facebook is accused of having replaced articles that had conservative topics with others on its “trending” news part. The staff did so, even if the new news items were not trending.
So far, mark Zuckerberg does not have evidence that the report is correct.
He has said that the position of Facebook is to give each person a voice.
“This week, there was a report suggesting that Facebook contractors working on Trending Topics suppressed stories with conservative viewpoints. We take this report very seriously and are conducting a full investigation to ensure our teams upheld the integrity of this product.”
He said if any evidence of “anything against our principles” was discovered “you have my commitment that we will take additional steps to address it”.
Mr. Zuckerberg has invited the Conservatives leaders to discuss their views with him.
As per a report by Gizmodo, a tech website, Facebook was asked to only take trending stories from CNN, BBC and mainstream sites while ignoring smaller news sites.
It said the trending topics section was run like a newsroom, with curators able to “blacklist” or “inject” topics.
For a story to be considered as trending, it must have been leading on mainstream sites.
Recent times have seen Facebook get more pressure regarding making its processes transparent.
