Xiaomi Mi Air Mask, an air-filtration mask has been officially launched in China on Tuesday. The mask comes with a built-in carbon filter which can be replaced and is priced at 89 Yuan in China, which is approximately Rs 870 in Indian currency. The Chinese manufacturer has already introduced its flagship Mi Air purifier 2 in India and is expected to launch the new Mi Air Mask by December 2016.
According to the company, Xiaomi Mi Air Mask is a set of masks combined together to form a portable air-purifying mask with an overall weight of 50.5 grams. The mask features a double detachable design that comes with a thin fan, charging port, filter cartridge and a mini-battery to power the fan which runs at 3-level speed. As per the official statement from the company, the Li-ion battery can be charged in 4-8 hours and can run for a whole day under appropriate conditions.
Xiaomi claims that the filter used in the Mi Air mask is of high-quality polyester fabric and that it has the capability to filter 99% of PM 2.5 present in the air.
The Chinese manufacturer has entered the Indian market in September this year with its Mi Air Purifier 2 priced at Rs 9,999. The Air purifier claims to remove 99.7 percent of PM 2.5 from the surroundings and assures a clean Air Delivery Rate Performance of 330-cubic meters per hour.
With the pollution in major cities of India creating new records, the market for Air purifiers and Air masks has seen a boom with e-commerce companies like Snapdeal stating that the air purification market has seen a three-fold rise when compared to the previous year. Undoubtedly, the demand has further increased from the North Indian states, especially from Delhi, where schools remain still closed due to unfavorable smog occupying the surroundings.
