While stressing that Facebook will do its best to fight against fake news, Mark Zuckerberg said that the social media site did not in any way aid Donald Trump win the election.
Through a post that he published on his Facebook profile, Zuckerberg said that it was his hope he will soon announce measures to deal with fake stories.
“This work takes longer than we would like in order to confirm changes we make won’t introduce unintended side effects or bias,” the Facebook founder said.
He continued to explain that over 99% Facebook content “is authentic.”
Mr. Zuckerberg said that the percentage of hoaxes and fake news on Facebook is very small and their existence is not limited to one partisan view.
Did not support Donald Trump
The Facebook CEO said that the firm does not need any hoaxes. Their target is to have content that is accurate and shows the people the world as it is.
For most people in the world, Facebook is turning into their primary source of information. Despite this, data has shown that that fake stories are being widely shared on the platform.
Complaints had emerged earlier this year that Facebook was anti-Trump. Many lamented that the site favored liberal news to appear on people’s “trending stories” box.
In denying the claim, Zuckerberg said that they did sack its human team and relied solely on an algorithm to determine the stories that appeared on top.
