Is it possible that the iPhone XR which recently made it to stores could be the lost iPhone 9 that some experts had expected? We may not know that but what we know is that it has some capabilities which are equivalent to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.
According to Teardown, a world-class repair outfit, Apple’s $750 iPhone XS has certain designs which are prominent in iPhone 8 and iPhone X.
A peculiar discovery by iFixit suggests that iPhone XR has ingredients that strikes as a pre-X-series design. There smartphone retains an old-school bar-shaped, single-cell battery as opposed to the L-shaped battery that accompanies iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.
Furthermore, this smartphone still has the same rear and front cameras that were included in last year’s iPhone. The wireless chip hasn’t experienced much changes either. It’s worth noting that this wireless chip is not capable of the speedier Gigabit LTE.
One major milestone that Apple might have made is associated with the battery. Whereas the XR has a smaller battery compared to the XS Max, it is still capable of carrying more power which gives it a stronger battery life compared to all the three new iPhones in the market.
What if the iPhone glass breaks?
If you break the back glass of the iPhone XR, you will have to repair the whole phone’s chassis. This is a feature that iFixit was not able to comprehend during its tear down of the iPhone XR.
The repair site was not able to understand how the iPhone XS managed to have extra IP water and dust protection (up to 2 meters below the surface of water for a maximum of 30 minutes). The other waterproof iPhones, including iPhone XR, are able to withstand just 1 meter for the same amount of time.
Moving forward, iFixit noted that iPhone XR back glass doubles the “crackability” and that you need to be extra careful with it. If you happen to break it you should be ready to replace the whole phone’s chassis.
iPhone XR Processor
Even though iPhone XR is marketed as the ‘budget’ phone, we cannot ignore the fact that it borrows so many features from its bigger brothers – the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.
One of the things that Apple has always bragged about is how efficient its phones can be. That is courtesy to the processors included in its iPhones. It is perplexing that even though the XR is a budget phone (but we cannot tell how cheap $750 can be), the device still comes with the same A12 Bionic processor found in XS and XS Max.
A12 is a much faster processor compared to A11 which came with iPhone X. This processor also incorporates graphics, machine learning and image signal processing.
As much iPhone XR does not have dual camera setup, it features the same wide angle camera which can be seen in the costlier iPhone XS. It has a 32% larger 12MP sensor which means the camera would perform much better in low light.
Similar to the XS, the iPhone XR is able to shoot 1080p videos at 60 frames per second using the front-facing TrueDepth camera.
Animoji is not a new feature but considering the XR price, the feature became more accessible. When the iPhone XR was launched, it marked the first time that Animoji could be seen on an iPhone which wasn’t that high-ended in terms of price.
Animoji is an animated feature which responds to facial expressions via the iPhone X camera, to animate various 3D animated emojis that can be sent as a video file with sound. Each Animoji comes with various expressions that respond to the shown face. It’s exciting that you can use it on iPhone XR without having to spend to much money on a flagship iPhone model.
