30 Killed in Turkey wedding blast
At least 30 people have been killed and 90 others injured at an explosion that took place at an outdoor wedding party in the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep.
The Turkish government immediately gave a respond to the occurrence and referred to it as a “terror attack”. It said that a suicide bomber is responsible for the attack.
The deputy Prime Minister also released a statement in which he said that the attack was a barbaric act and went on to state that by God’s grace they will overcome.
The bombing took place close to university hostels after the wedding extended all the way to the streets. Sounds of the explosion could be hear all over the town.
Did IS take part in this?
So far no group has claimed responsible for the terror attack. But some government sources suggest that IS may have been involved. The group is known to have connections at the border of Gaziantep.
Both the so-called Islamic State and Kurdish militants have occasionally hit Turkey in the past one year. The most recent was the attack on Istanbul airport which killed over 40 people.
Northern Syria seems to be stabilizing. The jihadists have lost control of it. Manbij was their former stronghold but they have lost grounding. Syrian forces have the plans to move further into the IS-controlled Jarablus.
If this explosion was organized and carried out by IS, it will be viewed as a revenge mission. It will be speculated to be an attempt by the group on the defensive to show strength.
