BENGALURU: Garment workers in Bengaluru have violently protested against the new norms that are to be used for withdrawal of provident fund. Police were forced to open fire in the air after the protestors went as far as torching vehicles that had been parked in Hebbagodi Police Station on Hosur Road. Vehicles in North of Bengaluru were also torched by the protestors.
Tuesday’s protests shifted from those of Monday in which the protestors concentrated on Hosur Road. This time round, they went to major highways such as Mysore Road, Bannerghatta Road as well as other major parts of the city.
The protestors attacked major companies that are situated along these roads. Vehicles that had been parked in the campus of Biocon got pelt with stones.
Large police forces were deployed along major junctions of Hosur Road that the protestors had occupied. At around 9.30 am, they started attacking the security officers which made the law enforcers to chase them out.
City police commissioner NS Megharikh said that additional forces have been deployed and the situation in the city was under control.
The security forces are doing their best to cool down the Bengaluru violent protests.
