Joe Biden received a surprise award from Barack Obama when the president awarded him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor one can get in the country.
Emotional Biden was given the honor during a White House Ceremony.
While presenting the medal to his Vice President, Obama said:
“For your faith in your fellow Americans, for your love of country and for your lifetime of service that will endure through the generations, I’d like to ask the military aide to join us on stage. For my final time as President, I am pleased to award our nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”
While accepting the award with tear-welled eyes, Biden said that the award was “well beyond” what he deserves adding that it reflected the President’s heart, reports CNN News.
Just before he presented the award to him, Mr Obama had given a lengthy colorful remark for Biden and his family.

He termed the family as the kind to help in building America. For that matter, the president and his family are honored to refer to themselves as “honorary Bidens.”
Mr. Obama went on to explain that as much as their term was coming to an end, their bond would forever remain firm.
Obama quoted one Republican senator when he said: “If you can’t admire Joe Biden as a person you’ve got a problem, He’s as good a man as God ever created.”
Joe Biden who openly appeared perplexed by the whole incident said he had no idea it would happen. He said he thought all he was coming to do was toast senior staff with the first lady and his wife Jill Biden.
