NEW DELHI: In an unusual incident, a BSF Jawan uploaded a video on social networking site Facebook complaining over the low-quality food being served to the soldiers deployed at the border. The jawan accused his powerful senior officials of involving in a food scam while reiterating that the government was not at the wrong end. Hours after the video surfaced in the national media, the Border Security Force (BSF) released a statement accusing the jawan of being ‘an alcoholic and a habitual offender’.
Tej Badur Yadav, a BSF jawan of the 29 battalion Seema Suraksha Bal, which is posted along the line of control to safeguard the borders, uploaded a video on Monday describing the low-quality food being served to the soldiers. The soldier talked in length about corruption in the Indian army and showed pictures of food items which were meant to be served to soldiers. He accused the senior officers of selling the supplies meant to the soldiers in the open market and urged the Prime Minister to investigate.
The BSF, on the other hand, criticized the soldier of not having a good conduct while stating that the allegations of the jawan were baseless. “The jawan in question is a habitual offender and has been a regular absentee from duty without permission. He had several cases of misconduct against him and for such reasons most of the time he had served in the headquarters under the guidance of some superior officials”.
Responding to the whole incident on his twitter handle, Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured that the matter will be looked into and that he had ordered the Home secretary to get a detailed investigation report from the BSF. A DIG level official has already reached the spot to investigate.
Minister of State (Home), Kiren Rijiju too assured that the welfare of the soldiers will be the top priority of the BJP government and that every step will be taken to safeguard the interests of the jawans.
In the video uploaded by Yadav, in an undisclosed location, he said that they stand for 11 straight hours at the border regardless of the weather conditions and for that, they are served insufficient and poor quality food. He requested the government to do the needful., the times of India reported.
