Geelani’s passport application was rejected by the Union External Affairs Ministry due to lack of proper details. The Ministry said that the passport application cannot be processed further in its state, as it lacked complete details.
Geelani, a Pro-Pakistan Hurriyat Hawk, has failed to provide his biometric details and photographs to the Ministry in his application. Speaking on the issue an official said ” we have been seeing news related to Geelani in the Media, regarding to his passport application. However, We have not received a complete application from him. If a passport has to be granted, he must provide all the necessary details in his application following the due procedure.”
It is known that the separatist revolutionist had applied for a passport, for a visit to Saudi Arabia to meet his unhealthy daughter. Political party PDP has criticised the BJP and Congress over the issue and urged that he must be granted a passport on Humanitarian grounds.
The application cannot be processed in its present form.” Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar, meanwhile, said Geelani will have to write “Indian” in the nationality column to apply for the passport,
the Deccan Chronicle reports.
“A passport is the right of every Indian citizen and is issued by the ministry of external affairs after following due process. In case any applicant applies for a passport, he should fulfill all the formalities before his case is processed. As and when the matter is referred to the ministry of home affairs, we will process the case on merit.”
